Bay Point Local PageWhy the drive from Bay Point makes sense
Bay Point does not have a BJJ school of its own. The realistic comparison is not Team Black versus another serious grappling option nearby — it is Team Black versus making do without one. The dual black belt credential at Team Black is not something a general martial arts school can replicate by adding BJJ to their schedule. Coach Dan Black earned black belts under Denny Prokopos and under Bryant Pangelinan, whose instructor Carlos Sapao is a world champion. Bay Point residents who are five minutes from that coaching standard have access to something most students drive much further to find.
If you are in Bay Point and want a BJJ gym that is close enough to train consistently and serious enough to actually develop your grappling, Team Black MMA is right next door. Book your first class and get started.
The gym is on Harbor Street in Pittsburg. From most Bay Point addresses, that is five to eight minutes — take Willow Pass Road east or hop on Highway 4 and exit at Harbor Street. You will pass under the BART overpass and you are almost there.
Most Bay Point students who train at Team Black describe some version of the same thing: they drove past Harbor Street for months before they walked in. Bay Point has no BJJ school of its own. The dual black belt instruction that Brentwood and Walnut Creek students make a deliberate 20-minute drive for is sitting just past the BART station from most Bay Point addresses. That is not a small advantage.
