Private Martial Arts Training in Pittsburg, CA
Group class teaches the average student.
Private training teaches you.
In a group class, coaching is distributed. Dan reads the room, adjusts to the majority, and keeps the class moving. That format works well for consistency — it does not work well for fixing a specific problem, building a foundation from zero, or compressing months of progress into weeks.
Private training removes all of that. Every session is designed around one student. The feedback is immediate, the drilling is specific, and the coaching targets exactly what is holding that student back — not what holds back the average beginner.
Dan has 20+ years of coaching experience, two BJJ black belts, and two world-ranked fighters built from scratch. That level of knowledge does not get diluted across the room in a private session — it comes directly at you.
The fastest way to get better is to have the right person watching every rep.
Private Training Works For Any Starting Point.
Never trained and do not want to get dropped into a group class cold. Private sessions give you the foundation to walk into any room ready.
Shy, young, or not ready for the group environment. Dan adjusts pace to the child — technically, physically, and temperamentally.
Fight camp prep, game-plan drilling, or fixing a specific technical problem before a bout. Focused work outside of team training.
A weakness to address, a skill to build fast, or a timeline to meet. Private training is the most direct route to measurable progress.
Dan Black Has Actually Done This.
Not a credentials page — a record. Two BJJ black belts, two world-ranked Glory Kickboxing fighters built from amateur, an active training partnership with the Skrap Pack in San Francisco, and at 48 years old, a fight in Thailand against a pro with over 500 career bouts.
When Dan corrects something in a private session, it is not because he read it in a manual. It is because he has done it, coached it at a world level, and knows exactly what happens when you do it wrong.

Private Training FAQ
Who is private training at Team Black for?
Private training is available for kids and adults at any experience level. It works especially well for beginners who want a foundation before group classes, kids who need individual attention, experienced students drilling specific techniques, and competitors preparing for a fight.
What disciplines are available for private sessions?
Coach Dan Black offers private sessions in Muay Thai, MMA, BJJ, and Kickboxing. Sessions can focus on a single discipline or blend elements depending on your goals.
How is private training different from group classes?
In a group class, the coach splits attention across the room. In a private session, every minute is on one student — their movement, their mechanics, their specific problem. Progress is faster because the coaching is calibrated to exactly where you are, not the average student in the class.
What are the private training hours?
Private sessions are available by appointment from 6AM to 11PM daily, seven days a week. Group class times do not apply — you schedule around your calendar.
Is private training good for kids?
Yes. It is one of the best ways to introduce martial arts to a child who is shy, nervous about group settings, or who needs more individual structure. Dan has worked with kids across a wide age range and adjusts his approach to match where they are.
Do I need prior experience?
No. Private training is often the best starting point for people with zero experience. You get the technical foundation first, so when you eventually join group classes you are not starting from scratch in a room full of people.
How do I book a session?
Contact the gym through the contact page or by phone. Private session availability is based on Coach Dan's schedule. Reach out to discuss your goals and find the right starting point.
Do you offer private training for students from Antioch or Brentwood?
Yes. Students come in from Antioch, Brentwood, Oakley, Bay Point, and across the East Bay. The gym is on Harbor Street in Pittsburg, accessible from Highway 4.
